Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 25, 2026
Unfold ("we", "us", "the app") is a personal journaling and reflection app made by Thunderbird Labs. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we don't do with it.
What we collect
- Account info. Your name, and the email Apple provides, when you sign in with Apple.
- Your journal entries and chapters. Stored in your private account on Google Firebase (Firestore). Only you can read them.
- Voice recordings. If you use voice input, audio is transcribed to text and the audio is discarded. Transcripts are stored with your entries.
- Published books. If you tap "Publish", the book content you publish becomes publicly readable at its share URL. You control what you publish.
- Basic device info. iOS version, app version, and crash logs for fixing bugs.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data. Ever.
- We don't share your journal entries with anyone.
- We don't use your entries to train AI models.
- We don't run third-party advertising or tracking.
Third-party services
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to make the app work:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, and cloud functions.
- Apple speech recognition — on-device or via Apple servers, per iOS settings.
- Anthropic Claude — generates follow-up reflection prompts. Entries sent for this purpose are not stored by Anthropic for training.
Your rights
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from inside the app, or by emailing us. Deletion is permanent.
Children
Unfold is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
